Mirror Supports Saturday’s A Future That Works March

Click to go to websiteIt is very rare that the trade union movement can applaud journalists in British media, but today is one of those rare occasions when we can.

Today’s (18th October) Daily Mirror, both newspaper and on-line versions, includes full details of the march, reasons for why the march is necessary; and an interview with TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber.

He told the newspaper:

"I'm delighted the Mirror is giving us so much support. Mirror readers know all too well why we are marching. We're marching because we've got an economy that's gone into reverse, with living standards squeezed for millions of ordinary people.

People are seeing the services they rely on being chipped away at, and people are feeling fearful for their jobs as the government's massive spending cuts hit not only the public services we rely on but also the private sector which also benefits from public spending."

Brendan BarberMr Barber added:

"We're going to get the message across loud and clear that we want to see a new approach. An approach that's about getting our economy moving and giving our young people a chance to get a start in working life. Let's get some confidence in our economy. Let's get a sense of fairness in our economy. Let's get a future that works.

I'm looking forward to seeing so many of you join us on Saturday for what's going to be a tremendous day."

The march will assemble along Victoria Embankment on the north bank of the Thames from 11am on October 20 moving off around noon.

The Mirror is also advising its readers on the march that they can email the newspaper at marchwithmirror@mirror.co.uk
